Maceo Parker
On Thursday's Music of My Mind, the first half of the program will be dedicated to the music of Maceo Parker, one of the great saxophonists of the last 40 years and one of the architects of FUNK music as we know it. The man has played with the funkiest of the funky and has been the leader of horn sections for the likes of James Brown/The JBs, Parliament-Funkadelic and most recently Prince. Check out his rather lengthy discography. However, Maceo should also be recognized for his own solo work and as band leader for recent albums such as FunkOverload War, School's In!, and his most recent double live album, Roots & Grooves, featuring tributes to James Brown and Ray Charles. Maceo and his amazing band will be performing live at the 24th annual Victoria JazzFest on Sunday night (June 24th) at Element Nightclub. Do not sleep on this show folks!! We are hoping to get an interview with the man himself on the weekend to be broadcast on next week's show...
